The tester servesto test with a needle flame, to simulate the impact of small flames, that mightoccur by faulty working conditions of the product, to evaluate the risk of fireby means of a imitating test procedure. The test flame is the source of fireimpacting on the sample for a certain period of time. The confirmation of theflame is conducted by the flame test arrangement and the calibration device.The temperature on the copper block is determined using a sheathed thermocoupletype K (class 1) in accordance with IEC 60584-2. The calibration device is able to monitor the space of timefrom 100 to 700 and calculate the average time from threetime measurements. The calibration device provides a digital and an analogicaltemperature output the time can be determined externally from.

 

Set-Up

Connect thecalibration device to your power supply and the thermocouple on the back sideof the calibration device. Connect the needle flame burner to the gas supply.The needle flame burner needs to be operated at 50 mbar. Connect thethermocouple to calibration device at the back side of the housing (picture 1).

 

Conducting theFlame Confirmation

Mount thethermocouple with its support to the stand. Adjust carefully on the heightadjustment of the stand the distance in between copper block and burner pipe to6 mm (picture 3). To do that the burner has to be in a vertical position. Fixits position so that the needle flame burner is below the copper block byadjusting the stop on the guiding rod. That way the position for thecalibration procedure is fixed. After that move the needle flame burner to itsinitial position to the right side of the tester. Ignite the burner and turn onthe calibration device. The flame height template has to be mounted (picture 6)so that the lower edge of the template’s sinking is on the same level as theshoulder of the needle flame  burner(diameter 6  mm).Set  the height  of  flame according  to  the standard  and  height

adjustmenttemplate (picture 2). The gas flow to the needle flame burner can be adjustedby the fine adjustment valve on the front side of the tester (picture 4). Whenthe calibration device is in working condition move the needle flame burnercarefully below the copper block and heat it up (picture 5). Then the burnermust not be moved anymore or the flame disturbed by ambient air flows. Afterthe temperature has risen up to 700 the measurement is completed and the burner can beput in its initial position. Before running a new test let the copper blockcool down below 50without any external help.

 

Running a Test

Through a brass millingwheel the needle burner can be turnt from a vertical position into a  45 ° position (picture 7). Mount the sampleand tighten it by adjusting the stops (picture 8). Align the needle burneraccording to your test arrangement to the sample and set the stops on the guidingrod. Move the burner towards the sample and let the sample being exposed to theflame for the determined space of time (picture 9).
