Hull cell test is a simple and effective testing-method, by which electroplatingcharacteristics can be examined. It is also adopted as a testing item in the Plating Skills Assessment 1st Grade Test. Since plating-film of a wide range of cathode current densities can be observed on a single test-piece, it is possible to conduct studies of optimal plating conditions and effects from lack or excess of chemicals (such as additives), existence of trace amount of impure substances and deposition distribution on alloy films. The attached DC Power Supply is of high performance and step current can be programmed within 10mA~10A range, making it possible to use the kit for purposes other than hull cell tests. This kit is recommended for first-time hull cell users.
The Hull cell is a specially designed cell for carrying out practical plating tests on electroplating solutions. The cell is designed so that the cathode is at a pre-defined angle to the anode (as shown below) to produce a range of current densities. The current densities produced in the Hull cell are above and below those that would be used under normal production parameters. This allows any potential problems in the plating solution (e.g. lack of additive) to be observed before any problems are seen on the production line.
